Abby Jimenez – Author Biography

Early Life

Abby Jimenez is an American author based in Minnesota. Before she ever published a novel, she built a celebrated career as a baker: in 2007 she founded Nadia Cakes out of her home kitchen, and the bakery went on to win numerous Food Network competitions, including Cupcake Wars in 2013, earning an international following for its inventive and often hilarious creations.

Career

Jimenez turned to writing romance almost by accident, developing a story she had told her children into her debut novel. The Friend Zone (2019) was a bestseller in Poland, won an Empik award, and earned an Audie Award nomination for its audiobook. The Happy Ever After Playlist (2020) and Life’s Too Short (2021) completed the trilogy, with the latter winning the 2022 Minnesota Book Award for genre fiction and both becoming USA Today and New York Times bestsellers. Her second series, beginning with Part of Your World (2022), brought even greater success: Yours Truly (2023) was named Book of the Year by the Book of the Month club, and Just for the Summer (2024) reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list and was selected for Good Morning America’s book club. Say You’ll Remember Me followed in 2025, also hitting number one. Her novels have been optioned for film adaptation.

Major Works

Jimenez’s major works include The Friend Zone (2019), The Happy Ever After Playlist (2020), Life’s Too Short (2021), Part of Your World (2022), Yours Truly (2023), Just for the Summer (2024), and Say You’ll Remember Me (2025).

Writing Style and Themes

Jimenez writes romantic comedies with unusual emotional depth. Her novels are funny — full of banter, meet-cutes, and endearing side characters (and dogs) — but they consistently tackle heavy subjects: infertility, grief, anxiety, family trauma. Her signature is the blend: she makes readers laugh on one page and cry on the next, and her romances resolve not just through love but through the characters doing difficult personal work. Her heroines are competent, funny women navigating real wounds, and her heroes are notably kind — a deliberate choice that has earned her a devoted following.

Legacy

Abby Jimenez rose in a few short years from debut novelist to one of the biggest names in contemporary romance, a trajectory powered by word of mouth and BookTok enthusiasm. Her success — from bakery champion to number-one bestselling novelist — is one of the most remarkable career pivots in modern publishing, and her books are now staples of the romance canon.
