Greer Hendricks – Author Biography
Greer Hendricks is the American thriller writer who, with co-author Sarah Pekkanen, reinvented the domestic-suspense novel. A former Simon & Schuster executive editor, she brought two decades of publishing insider knowledge to blockbusters like The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl.
Early Life
Hendricks grew up in the United States and studied English and publishing, entering the book industry after college. She spent more than twenty years at Simon & Schuster, rising to senior executive editor.
Career
As an editor, Hendricks worked with bestselling authors and learned the architecture of commercial fiction from the inside. In 2018, she made the leap to writing, partnering with the novelist and journalist Sarah Pekkanen. Their debut collaboration, The Wife Between Us (2018) — a twist-laden tale of marriage and obsession — was an instant New York Times bestseller. They followed it with An Anonymous Girl (2019), about a woman drawn into a psychologist’s ethically dubious study; You Are Not Alone (2020); The Golden Couple (2022); and The Housemaid Is Watching-era domestic thrillers that kept them on the bestseller lists. Their partnership is unusual in publishing: they plot and draft together, producing seamlessly co-authored novels at a remarkable pace.
Major Works
The Wife Between Us (2018) announced their arrival with a celebrated narrative rug-pull. An Anonymous Girl (2019) is their most psychologically intricate book — a cat-and-mouse game between a young woman and a manipulative therapist. The Golden Couple (2022) applies their formula to marriage counseling gone wrong.
Writing Style and Themes
Hendricks and Pekkanen write propulsive, twist-engineered domestic thrillers in alternating viewpoints and short, cliffhanger chapters. Their great themes are the unreliability of intimate relationships, female rage and agency, the ethics of manipulation, and the secrets inside seemingly perfect marriages. Their books are engineered for the “just one more chapter” read — and for the gasp-inducing reveal.
Legacy
Hendricks represents a distinctive twenty-first-century publishing story: the editor who crossed to the other side of the desk and became a bestselling author herself. With Pekkanen, she helped define the post-Gone Girl domestic thriller boom and demonstrated that co-authorship, done well, can produce fiction greater than the sum of its writers.
